Part 4: Eternal Judgment

In our series on Basic Christianity, we’ve talked about the Bible as God’s Word of, repentance, the baptism with the Holy Spirit, reality of Satan.

Today we’re talking about Eternal Judgment.

One of the basic beliefs of Christianity is that one day we will all stand before God to be judged by Him.

1. Who Is The Judge?

John 5:21-22 For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will. (22) For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son

Jesus is the eternal judge.

2. What Standard Does God Use To Judge Us?

This is an important question – because standards of judgment change.

It’'s illegal in Australia to make copies of your CDs –- but not in China. It used to be illegal in Singapore to chew gum –- but not in America. Homosexual marriages are illegal in Saudi Arabia –- but not in Holland.

Standards of judgment change from country to country, and from age to age.

What standard of judgment does God use?

God’'s standard is His word.

John 12:47-48 ...if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. (48) He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him; the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.

That’'s because God’'s standards never change: it has always been wrong to lie, steal, kill, commit adultery.

God doesn’'t keep changing His mind every few seconds, nor does He concern Himself with what is politically correct.

3. Will Anyone Escape Judgment?

Lots of people seem to think that they’ll be able to avoid the judgment.

But everyone will be judged – there will be no escape.

Rev 20:11-15

4. Will You Be Prepared For Judgment?

Mat 24:38-39 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, (39) and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

Many will be unprepared for judgment.

5. How Will True Christians Be Judged?

Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

This only applies to those who are true followers of Jesus.

Because true followers of Jesus have been forgiven.

John 5:24 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

Only true Christians will not be condemned at the judgment.

Every genuine follower of Christ will be judged, not to decide if he will go to heaven or hell – but to determine his reward.

Because our sins have been forgiven.

Ps 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.

There’s a reason God said He removed our sins as far as east is from west instead of north and south, because if you keep going north, you will eventually be going south. But it doesn’t matter how far east or west you go, you will still be going east or west.

How far is it from east to west? The distance is infinite.

Isaiah 43:25 I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins.

A man had sinned very badly and even though he had gone to the Lord, he never felt forgiven. A lady in his church was always saying, “"The Lord said to me..."” It wasn’t that he didn’t believe her, because she was usually right, but she really irked him. One day he said, “"If God is speaking to you, ask Him to tell you what it was I did years ago.”" She came back. “"Did you ask Him?”" "“Yes."” "“And what did He say?”" “"He said He doesn’'t remember.”"
