Topical Bible Studies: Blessing

About This Bible Study on Blessing

One of the great things about belonging to the Lord, is that we are now partakers of His blessing. Many Christians don't seem to be aware of this as they live lives that are virtually indistinguishable from the lives of non-believers.

What a tragedy, when God has done so much for us, that so many don't understand how to obtain the blessing that He wants us to have.

Blessing

Where does blessing come from?

Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

Blessing originates with God the Father and is available to us through Christ.

How can we get God's blessing?

Ps 3:8 Salvation belongs to the LORD. Your blessing is upon Your people. Selah

Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

God has already blessed us through Christ.

Rom 15:29 But I know that when I come to you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.

Blessing comes through the gospel.

Ps 5:12 For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; with favour You will surround him as with a shield.

God blesses the righteous.

Gal 3:13-14 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"), (14) that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Christ was cursed for us so that we might receive the blessing.

1 Pet 3:9 not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.

Believers who act in a Christ-like manner by blessing those who mistreat them, inherit a blessing.

Why does God bless His people?

Gen 12:1-3 Now the LORD had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you. (2) I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. (3) I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

God blesses His people so that they in turn can be a blessing to others.

Is it possible to miss out on the blessing?

Heb 12:17 For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears.

Refusal to repent from sin takes a person out of the place of blessing.

Do we have the authority and power to bless others?

Mat 5:44-45 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, (45) that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

Rom 12:14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

1 Cor 4:12 And we labour, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure.

1 Pet 3:9 not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.

Scripture overwhelmingly teaches that we have the power to bless others, and we are especially called to bless those who curse us or in any other way mistreat us.
