Most pastors I know want the best for their churches. It's what motivates them to do what they do.
But I sometimes wonder if we lose sight of something very important. In all of our learning, our programs, our goals and our vision, is Jesus still central?
It's easy to end up with what we could call "focus drift." You probably know what I mean. You start out focusing on Jesus. Goals are implemented, objectives are set, programs are implemented, and before you know it, they become the focus.
Instead of Jesus.
A while back, I started a series in our church that I entitled "Learn From Jesus." I did this deliberately so raise awareness of Christ as a person and to refocus our church on the person of Jesus.
Mind you, it's easy as a pastor to spot the problem, teach a series of messages on a topic that will fix the problem, then sit back thinking, "Whew! That's solved that. What's next?"
But so many of us suffer from what I call "Leaky Balloon Syndrome." Think about this: Someone throws a party. They hang up a whole bunch of bright balloons to help bring a bit cheer. Then the next morning, each of those balloons has leaked and looks like they're suffering from a hangover.
Leaky Balloon Syndrome. An injection of teaching into the church pumps up the balloon, but gradually, people leak. And before you know it, we're back where we were before.
That's why I made this what I call an intermittent series. Each instalment is given about every five weeks. So far, what's available is:
Learn From Jesus (1 Message)
Spiritual warfare is an area of Christian life that is easily relegated to one of two extremes. It is either seen as irrelevant in our enlightened times and therefore ignored. Or it is viewed as an activity to be engaged in on special occasions when the church participates in a spiritual warfare meeting. That's just what the devil would like us to think. This book is based on sound Biblical teaching that every Christian, like it or not, is involved in warfare daily. If you're serious about overcoming the devil, read this book. Topics covered include: Satan's greatest weapon, overcoming temptation, God's Word and other spiritual weapons, how to use the whole armor of God, the real meaning of "in Jesus' name", the power of the blood of Jesus, and more.
This will tell you what you want to know about who we are and a little bit about my leadership journey.
Email address and telephone number and that's about it.
I've never checked out a website's sitemap in my life. But apparently there are plenty of people who do. I hope the architecture of this ste is fairly self-explanatory, but if not, feel free to check out the sitemap.
