Sermon Illustrations: Loneliness

It was then that his [Admiral Nelson's] father died. Some men find a sense of liberation in the death of a powerful father, and the Rector's very humility had made him a powerful man to Nelson. Yet there was no sense of freedom, only of loss. To the end of his own life, on occasions of particular strain when he most needed someone to turn to, he would still cry in private, because he was all alone.1
